2026 is a milestone year for Hong Kong International Airport. With the Three-Runway System fully operational, the expanded Terminal 2 (T2) reopens in phases from 27 May 2026.
For travellers, T2 brings more modern facilities — and the anxiety of turning up at the wrong terminal. When you are catching a flight, a minute’s delay can cost you the boarding gate, the rebooking fee and the holiday you planned.
Because airlines move to T2 in phases, not all at once, the first step is knowing the current arrangement. This guide sets out the schedule for the first 15 airlines, and how GoGoX airport transfers get you from your front door to the terminal entrance.
Airline relocation schedule: phased from 27 May
The Airport Authority has published the arrangements for the first 15 airlines. Check the date before you travel:
| Date | Airlines |
|---|---|
| 27 May (opening) | Hong Kong Airlines moves first |
| 28 May | AirAsia, Thai AirAsia, Philippines AirAsia, Batik Air, Hainan Airlines, Thai Lion Air |
| 2 June | Cambodia Airways, IndiGo, VietJet Air |
| 3 June | Greater Bay Airlines, Bangkok Airways, Jeju Air |
| 9 June | Cebu Pacific |
| 10 June | HK Express completes its move |

A 30-second check on the day
– My HKG app: download the official airport app, enter your flight number and turn on notifications, and it will tell you whether to go to T1 or T2.
– Google: search the flight number (for example UO622) and the results show the departure time, gate and terminal.
– Your GoGoX driver: many experienced drivers will ask which airline you are flying — a useful second check.
What is new in T2: smart check-in and everyday food
– Next-generation check-in: over 50 self-service bag-drop machines, with drop-off possible in as little as five minutes.
– Automated security gates: facial recognition, so no repeated passport checks.
– Familiar food and drink: a number of well-liked local operators, including Tong Kee Bun Shop, Kwan Lan Cafe, two-dish rice specialist Ho Fan Ho Sung and Luckin Coffee, plus gift shops such as Hang Heung Cake Shop and Best Mart 360.
Point to point: GoGoX vans and no dragging cases between transports
Travel should be enjoyable, but hauling several large suitcases through public transport on the day is draining. With a snowboard, a pushchair or a lot of large luggage, a packed bus or train is a real challenge — and traffic or slow loading can put your boarding time at risk.
GoGoX airport transfers give you a front door to terminal entrance service. The space advantage is clear:
- Up to five passengers: right for a family or a group of friends.
- A very large rear compartment: room for up to 12 32-inch suitcases.
Finding each other at T2: the quickest meeting point
Under the airport’s current traffic layout, vans (light goods vehicles) have a better pick-up and drop-off point at T2:
1. Departing
– Drop-off: the driver will enter light goods vehicle park no. 5 (hourly).
– Walking route: a few minutes’ walk to the T2 departures entrance — currently the closest point to T2.
– Note: airport rules do not allow vans to stop at the private car drop-off outside the departures level, so no. 5 is your best option.
2. Arriving
– Pick-up: the driver waits at light goods vehicle park no. 5 (hourly).
– Walking route: after leaving the arrivals hall, follow the signs for “Light Goods Vehicle / Car Park 5”.
– Meeting: contact the driver through the GoGoX app while collecting your bags, and they will pull into the pick-up point.

FAQ
Q1: How do I confirm which terminal I check in at?
Download the “My HKG” app or check your airline’s email. Generally, airlines with their main base at T1 stay at T1.
Q2: Five people and more than ten large cases — will a GoGoX van really take it?
Yes. A van offers five seats and enough space for 12 32-inch suitcases.
Q3: How far ahead should I book while T2 is bedding in?
During public holidays and peak season, book at least 24 hours ahead.
T2 and airport transfers: common questions
How do I know which terminal my flight uses?
Check the airline’s confirmation email before you leave, or the airport’s own app. Terminal assignments change from time to time.
Terminal arrangements as published by the Airport Authority Hong Kong.
Will a van take five people and more than ten large cases?
Yes. A van takes 5 people and up to twelve 32-inch cases, with no charge for the passengers. On 5.5 and 9-tonne trucks the first 2 are free and each person from the third adds HK$20.
The van’s body is about 168 × 122 × 122 cm (5.5 × 4 × 4 ft) with a 700 kg limit. For an unusual amount of luggage or oversized items, a 5.5-tonne truck runs about 366–457 × 183 × 198 cm (12–15 × 6 × 6.5 ft) at 1,000–1,300 kg.
How far ahead should I book an airport transfer?
GoGoX matches on demand — platform data shows a match in as little as one second.
Demand still bunches around public holidays and peak season, so schedule the trip in advance and leave slack for a delayed flight.
