Holiday planned? Skiing in Japan or Korea, the northern lights in Scandinavia, whale sharks in the Maldives? Now picture getting there with children, grandparents and a pile of large luggage, changing between buses and trains. Here is how to get in and out of the airport smoothly, however much you are carrying.
📍 Where vans load and unload at the airport
Under airport rules, vans may only load, unload or park in two designated areas. Confirm the pick-up and drop-off area with your driver before you set off.
Light goods vehicle loading / unloading area: yellow zone, no. 3 (to the left of Terminal 1)
Light goods vehicle park: blue zone, no. 5 (to the left of the Airport Commercial Building)
From the loading area (yellow zone, from HK$50) to T1
Having walked it ourselves, we would recommend the loading / unloading area (yellow zone, no. 3): the surface is even, so large luggage is no trouble. After getting out, follow the signs to the lift and keep going to the end to reach the South Departures Hall (Aisle A).
1) On arriving at the car park, enter the T1 entrance and turn left for the lift.
2) From 3/F in the loading area, take the lift to the departures level on 7/F and turn right.
3) Follow the corridor to the end and turn right for the South Departures Hall (Aisle A).

From the vehicle park (blue zone, from HK$16) to T1
The light goods vehicle park (blue zone, no. 5) is cheaper, but there is construction nearby and parts of the surface are uneven — worth bearing in mind with large luggage. The actual loading area may change depending on availability and conditions on the day.
1) From the car park, take the exit and follow the walkway out; at the bus terminus, turn right.
2) Continue along the bus terminus until you reach the ticket office at the far end, then turn left.
3) At the bus information board, turn right.
4) Keep going straight to reach Terminal 1.

📱 Book ahead and travel better

💡 Tips
Going to the airport: book about six hours ahead — you can set the pick-up time in the app.
Leaving the airport: book in the app as soon as you have your bags. Drivers can respond in as little as eight seconds.
